Vanilla syrup instructions for coffee

I adore coffee, and I can’t emphasize it enough, but I also prefer to keep it straightforward, sweet, and tasty. One thing I dislike is the hyped store-bought flavored syrups that leave an unpleasant aftertaste, particularly the zero-calorie types.

Crafting vanilla syrup or other flavored syrups at home from scratch is uncomplicated, and you merely need a few pantry essentials.

Today, I’ll be sharing this three-ingredient vanilla coffee syrup that can enhance not just your coffee and hot chocolate but also be used for teas and various homemade alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

You’ll surely be reducing your visits to Starbucks after mastering today’s recipe in just 10 minutes at home.

Reasons to prepare it at home

  • It is straightforward and inexpensive! Speaking of affordability, this is it.
  • No more lingering while waiting for sugar to dissolve before savoring your coffee at any hour.
  • You can adjust the sugar to water ratio to suit your taste. I enjoy it rich, but you can certainly personalize it with this basic recipe.
  • You can whip it up in under 10 minutes.
  • It is practical and free from any additives. In fact, the sugar serves as a natural preservative that can keep the syrup fresh longer in the fridge or in a cool spot.

What you’ll require to prepare it

Sugar: I prefer a mixture of brown and caster sugar since the brown sugar deepens the coffee flavor. I believe it is due to the molasses in the brown sugar. It works well for me, but you can skip it and use standard sugar if you want your syrup to be clear rather than dark like mine.

Water

Salt: I included a pinch of salt for flavor balance.

Vanilla extract: You can also substitute this with vanilla beans; I just prefer the extract because it’s less labor-intensive when making the syrup.

How to create vanilla syrup for coffee

In a small saucepan, combine brown and white sugar with water.

Set to medium heat and stir until the sugar and water are mixed and the sugar is dissolved; then lower the heat and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Remove from heat, then incorporate vanilla extract, a pinch of salt (if using), and mix. Allow the sugar syrup to cool. Transfer to an airtight container for storage up to 1 month, or longer when refrigerated.

Suggestions

  • Opt for caster sugar instead of granulated sugar as it dissolves faster due to its finer grain.
  • If you prefer not to use dark brown sugar, or want a lighter tint for the syrup, then select light brown sugar or demerara.
  • Replace the vanilla extract with salted caramel or other flavor extracts as you wish.
