Peanut butter enthusiasts: Have you attempted producing your own? I’m uncertain what delayed me from trying it. It’s incredibly simple to mix in a food processor and tastes phenomenal. Elevate your PB&J with homemade peanut butter.

Homemade peanut butter is decadently creamy, with deep and enticing peanut flavor. Importantly, there’s no grit or bothersome oil to mix into the jar. Homemade peanut butter surpasses all the commercially available variations in taste and consistency, and I’ve sampled every natural peanut butter present!

With homemade peanut butter, you have complete authority over the components. There’s no requirement for sugar if you favor unsweetened peanut butter (although if you appreciate a hint of sweetness, I have suggestions below). There’s certainly no necessity for oils like hydrogenated vegetable oil or palm oil. My dry-roasted peanuts blended into creamy perfection without any extra oils.

If you’re keen on crafting your own peanut butter, this recipe is tailored for you! You’ll discover tips, modifications, and the complete recipe below—plus a video to observe it being made.

Tips for Homemade Peanut Butter

Peanut butter on toast has been a breakfast staple for as long as I can recall. I once implored my mom to send peanut butter across the ocean during a semester abroad in France. As it turns out, all you require are peanuts and a food processor to create your own.

Begin with unsalted dry-roasted peanuts.

Usually, for nut butters, I commence with raw nuts and roast them before blending. However, it has been tricky to locate unroasted peanuts lately. Dry-roasted peanuts serve as the ideal option. While oiled nuts could function, you’re adding an unnecessary component into your peanut butter.

Opt for unsalted peanuts to manage the salt content. Verify the ingredients before purchasing (the sole ingredient should be peanuts) and taste them before blending. Poor-quality peanuts will lead to poor-quality peanut butter.

Utilize your food processor, not a blender.

I remain loyal to the Food Processor for nut butters, including peanut butter. Nut butters are so thick that even high-quality blenders like my Vitamix require substantial manual assistance to function. It’s simpler to place the nuts in my food processor and let it handle the task.

I’m pleased to report that peanut butter blends far more seamlessly than my other nut butter recipes. Once you create peanut butter, you’ll want to experiment with the rest!

Peanut Butter Flavor Variations

Attempt just one or indulge in them all! Crunchy cinnamon-honey peanut butter sounds delightful to me.

Naturally sweetened peanut butter

Honey and peanut butter are a match made in heaven, but maple syrup is also fantastic. With homemade peanut butter, you possess complete authority over the sweetness level. I found 1 teaspoon to be mildly sweet, 2 teaspoons distinctly sweet and hardly honey-flavored (it thickens the mix substantially!), and 1 tablespoon tastes like a treat, with a light honey essence.

Cinnamon peanut butter

Consider incorporating a dash of ground cinnamon for a warming spice. Use 1/2 teaspoon for a subtle hint, or up to 1 tablespoon if you’re an enthusiast.

Crunchy peanut butter

For added texture, set aside roughly 3/4 cup of the peanuts. Blend the remaining peanuts as instructed, then incorporate the reserved peanuts back into the processor and blend briefly until they are broken into small fragments.

Mixed nut butter

Replace almonds, cashews, pecans, walnuts, or pistachios for some of the peanuts.

Peanut Butter Serving Suggestions

I adore peanut butter for breakfast. It’s tough to surpass peanut butter on toast! To elevate it further, drizzle with honey. Stir a dollop of peanut butter into your morning oats for added heartiness—try my overnight oats, oatmeal, and steel-cut oats.

My toddler’s favorite snack is apple slices with a peanut butter dip—simply mix a generous spoonful into some Greek yogurt. Add honey or cinnamon if desired.

Transform your peanut butter into something sweet, like Peanut Butter Oat Cookies, Monster Cookies, or Chocolate Peanut Butter Crispy Bars. You can also utilize peanut butter to make my Easy No-Bake Granola Bars.

Peanut butter can also be savory. Prepare a peanut butter dipping sauce to serve with spring rolls or drizzle it over these mango burrito bowls. Alternatively, make Vegetarian Peanut Soup!

Of course, we cannot overlook the classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich, which is a staple in my daughter’s lunch box. You will discover more applications for peanut butter here.
