The East converges with the West in this Cozy Autumn Golden Milk Cocktail, crafted using coconut milk, fresh turmeric root, spices, and an anise-infused liqueur.

Golden Milk Could Be The Replacement for Lemon Water!

What Is Golden Milk?

Turmeric milk, commonly referred to as golden milk, has its ancient lineage rooted in Ayurveda traditions; a holistic approach to medicine or preventive health methods.

Golden milk, also recognized as tea, is thought to possess anti-inflammatory effects attributed to the turmeric root.

Plant-based milk, preferably coconut or almond, combined with fresh turmeric root (ideally), simmered to extract the remarkably rich health benefits from turmeric, creates this swift and nutritious golden milk beverage.

Turmeric For Health

If there ever existed a more unattractive root (which resembles grubs to me), with such exquisite health advantages, I have yet to discover it!

Although turmeric is a member of the ginger family and has its own distinctive zing in taste, the health advantages greatly surpass its relative.

It is deemed the most potent nutritional supplement available, so why not transform it into a healthier cocktail!

Turmeric and Coconut Milk Golden Milk

Turmeric is recognized for being fat-soluble, indicating its health benefits are maximized when combined with a fatty substance.

For this purpose, I opted to utilize coconut milk instead of animal-derived milk, although whole fat dairy milk is also an acceptable alternative.

This vibrant orange root naturally assists in reducing inflammation levels in the body, much like coconut milk does.

Moreover, the combination of flavors from turmeric and coconut are incredibly delectable together.

Fresh Turmeric vs. Powdered Turmeric

Golden Milk For Health

During my time in Brazil, it was a routine to visit various street vendors with carts filled with fresh coconuts.

They would chop off the top, insert a straw, and always offer you the sharp piece they cut off, to extract the white pulp after drinking the coconut water.

Both the coconut water and the creamy white pulp are packed with flavor and health benefits.

My dear friend from China, who also happens to be a long-time practicing urologist and holistic health researcher, advocates strongly for coconut.

He recommends consuming it daily and using its oil internally for women’s intimate areas.

Today, my primary goal is to share this wonderful cocktail I crafted, although I do plan to revisit more insights on the aforementioned topic.

Enhancing Flavor In Golden Milk

While turmeric and coconut milk possess their own distinct flavor, this beverage introduces an additional and unique taste; fennel or anise.

Numerous liqueurs create a drink with fennel and anise flavor,

but imagine you prefer not to add a liqueur to this toasty beverage.

Infusing the essence of fennel or anise is simple; just let fennel pollen or anise seeds steep in the warm milk.

If you cultivate fennel, there are straightforward methods to extract its robust natural flavor.

Collecting Pollen and Seeds for Tasty Cooking

Cozy Autumn Beverages

Typically, cocktails are associated with being chilled, invigorating, and served over ice.

Yet, when fall and winter approach and a cold breeze seeps into our bones, who desires to sip on ice?

A heated cocktail is truly a gentle sip, allowing our tastebuds to savor the cocktail’s flavor far better than when that same beverage is served cold.

The Mediterranean spirits, Arak and Ouzo, are clear liquors with anise flavor.

Adding a splash of water to either transforms them into a milky white, enhancing the creamy texture of the already velvety coconut milk.

Mocktails Instead of Cocktails?

‘Mocktails’ are an excellent way to involve everyone in enjoying something unique you’ve crafted for yourself.

To create a mocktail, simmer anise seeds or fennel pollen in milk and turmeric, allow it to steep briefly, strain, and serve.

The flavor will still be present, just without the alcohol!

Turmeric Root Autumn Cocktail

Nowadays, turmeric root is about as accessible in a grocery store as ginger roots.

I cannot emphasize enough the significance of utilizing the genuine turmeric root rather than the powder, particularly if you seek its health advantages.

Finding turmeric root at the market sparks my inspiration for recipes.

When I get them home, I peel, chop, and freeze them immediately.

This ensures I have the freshest possible ingredient when I require it.

Frequently, when herbs and spices are dried, many of their natural oils or health attributes are depleted, even if the flavor may intensify.

You can notice the clear distinction in color when comparing fresh turmeric root, frozen or dried.

Fall Picnics and Gatherings

It was a bright November day when I concocted this cocktail. Yesterday it was 70 degrees, and today it’s 48!

Leaves have been cascading down. An evening fire in the fireplace has been lit for a month. Friends dropped by for a visit, and I wanted to present them with something unique.

Everyone relished the delightful essence of anise in the liqueur.

The comforting heat of the hot milk and the knowledge that turmeric was benefiting them more than any negatives the alcohol might present.

We All Enjoyed That!

Warm Golden Milk Cocktail Brightens An Autumn Day

How To Prepare Warm Autumn Golden Milk Cocktail

Pour the necessary amount of coconut milk into a saucepan. Peel and roughly chop a small piece of turmeric root. Bring to a gentle boil, then reduce to a low simmer and let it cook for 5 minutes with a lid.

Turn off the heat, incorporate honey (or your chosen sweetener), mixing to dissolve the honey into the milk.

Pour into a thermos to keep warm or serve right away.

Initially, pour the anise spirit into the cup, then fill it up with the heated, sweet turmeric milk.

If preparing a mocktail, add 1/4 teaspoon of anise seeds or Fennel Pollen to the milk while it simmers. Proceed as detailed above, omitting the spirit during serving.

This beverage is also delightful when served chilled, but we shall revisit that when summer arrives again!

Additional Warm Cocktails and Mocktails To Adore

During the peak of summer, the last thing on our minds is a heated beverage, even though we still savor our Tea or Coffee.

Yet, once the days become shorter and cooler, we crave warmth, Pumpkin Pie, Baked Apples, and heated drinks.

Here are merely a few of my top picks.

Warm Autumn and Winter Sips

Required Ingredients

  • Coconut Milk acts as the creamy, dairy-free foundation, rich, smooth, and slightly tropical, adding substance and warmth while mellowing the spices.
  • Freshly grated or ground Turmeric root contributes its characteristic golden color and subtle earthiness. Beyond hue, it adds the grounding flavor that renders this beverage feel both timeless and revitalizing.
  • Honey binds everything together with a gentle sweetness and floral nuances, balancing the spices and the warmth from the turmeric.
  • Anise-flavored liqueurs like Arak or Ouzo introduce a hint of the exotic, a fragrant licorice note that enhances the creamy texture and pairs beautifully with the warming spices.
  • Cinnamon, Cloves, and Nutmeg complete the experience. These autumn spices create an aromatic warmth that lingers long after the initial sip, akin to the aroma of a cozy kitchen as the leaves begin to fall.

Necessary Equipment

  • Shot glass for Arak.
  • Small pot to heat the milk.
  • Measuring cup and spoons.
  • Whisk or frother.
  • Stovetop or burner.
